Easy sundae for Sundays! It is delicious and fresh for any hot summer day. Start with bananas, a vanilla-flavored ice cream, and dulce de leche. I use the Nestlé brand dulce de leche from a can. Make your own homemade whipped cream and your dessert will be so fresh.

You will think I have gotten crazy to post a dessert recipe in my blog, but I teach that desserts can be eaten on a special occasion. Enjoy a small dessert on special days and take your time to taste the sweetness of every bite. It is well known that sugary foods, all the time cannot be good. If that’s your case, we might have to talk.

It has six ingredients: bananas, ice cream, dulce de leche, whipped cream, coconut flakes, and toasted walnuts.

This banana sundae tastes like a banana split and it also reminds me of the caramel sundae from McDonald’s. Perhaps it could be because of the caramel sauce.

It has six ingredients: bananas, ice cream, dulce de leche, whipped cream, coconut flakes, and toasted walnuts.

Make the whipping cream from scratch, this will make it amazing. Toast the coconut flakes, the walnuts and warm the dulce de leche in a pan. That’s it, grab your small mason jars and assemble.

I have closed the jar and stored the sundae in the freezer until ready to serve. But, beware that I have only done this for an hour at the most.

Enjoy! And, don’t forget to write me a comment.

Easy sundae made with bananas and dulce de leche.

Course: Dessert
Servings: 4 sundaes
Calories: 540 kcal
Ingredients
  • 3 bananas, cut in chunks
  • 2 cups whipped cream
  • 4 cups ice cream, vanilla flavored
  • 4 tbsp. dulce de leche, from a can
  • 1/3 cup walnut pieces
  • 1/2 cup coconut flakes, unsweetened
Instructions
  1. Start by making whipped cream from scratch. Place 1 cup of cold heavy whipping cream or heavy cream in a bowl and with an electric beater, sprinkle a little sugar (about a tablespoon or to taste), beat for about 5 minutes until stiff peak forms. Store in the fridge until ready to use.

  2. Toast coconut flakes in a small pan (I use aluminum pan), until the edges turned brown, about 4 minutes. Remove and set aside in a small container.

  3. In the same pan, toast walnut for about 2-3 minutes. Remove and set aside in a small container.

  4. In the same pan, warm dulce de leche for about 2 minutes until soft. Mix with a spatula. Don't let the mixture boil.

  5. Cut your bananas and get ready to assemble the sundae. Here is the order but feel free to change: bananas, one cup of ice cream, a tablespoon of dulce de leche, 1/2 cup of whipped cream. Serve with coconut flakes and toasted walnuts on top.
