The Latin Voice of Nutrition
Malena Perdomo, MS, R.D, CDE is a registered dietitian and a certified diabetes educator whose work includes counseling families or groups to help them with lifestyle changes and collaborates in community research programs teaching nutrition for the Latino community of Denver. She also develops consumer-oriented print and video materials on general nutrition, diabetes and other topics geared toward Latinos. She is an adjunct professor of nutrition at the Metropolitan State University of Denver.
As the nutritionist of a Colorado Spanish TV health show Los Secretos de Maya, she is a co-author of a cookbook with chef Martin Limas Villers and Maya Leon Meis. This cookbook is a compilation of healthy latin recipes. In the kitchen, Malena is a mom who adapts recipes m various cultures especially Latino recipes to make them quick, delicious and healthy. Her favorite recipes are on this website but to view her latest recipes, follow her on Instagram or Facebook. The type of foods that she likes are produce from her urban garden, foods in its natural form, and products made with simple ingredients.
Previously, Malena served as the Latino Nutrition Spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association from 2005 until 2011 and is Past Chair of Latinos and Hispanics in Dietetics & Nutrition (LAHIDAN) Member Interest Group of the American Dietetic Association. She was a former outpatient dietitian for Kaiser Permanente Colorado, a WIC program public health dietitian, and a consultant dietitian for children with special needs. She was also the star nutritionist for the LiveWell Colorado campaign for the Latinos.
She is a graduate of Florida State University-Panama Canal Branch and the University of Tennessee- Chattanooga and earned a master’s degree from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. Malena is native of The Republic of Panama, lives in Denver and has two children Alexander and Max.

Let’s work on three realistic goals that can get you motivated to make changes for life. I don’t believe in diets, I believe diet habits can change with the proper knowledge, having good food relationship, training, exercise and creating a new habit at a time.
After we meet, we will talk by phone to follow up on your nutrition and exercise goals. This is for us to connect, revise and come up with new strategies for your healthy living. I will be your personal coach.
